About

The Pryde is the first LGBTQ-friendly senior housing project in Boston. The historic William Barton Rogers School was transformed to provide 74 independent senior living units specifically allocated to the LGBTQ community. The revitalized building also serves the local community by providing public classrooms, an art gallery, and public meeting space.

In keeping with the project’s goal for inclusivity, AKF provided Code Consulting services. AKF's code experts secured a plumbing code variance to allow the building to utilize gender-neutral bathrooms. The code team also worked with the design team to develop alternative accessibility solutions that were accepted by the MAAB through variance approval, including a rainbow-striped accessible route.
